Milk-Sample Technician Intern

There are two Milk-Sample Technician internships available, one in Kaukauna, Wis., and one in Grand Ledge, Mich.

Your purpose:

As a Milk-Sample Technician Intern, you become part of a dynamic team that analyzes samples and reports component and diagnostic results from dairy and beef producers throughout Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, and various surrounding states. Samples are received from Dairy Herd Information (DHI) Specialists, producers, and veterinarians and provide a wealth of information about animal health and production.

Training and experience will be provided on:

  • Moving and organizing milk samples for processing;
  • Performing accurate preparation of various chemicals for analysis of milk samples;
  • Useing state-of-the-art equipment to analyze milk samples;
  • Preparing sample vials for use by team members in the field;
  • Maintaining inventory and supply levels to ensure compliance with quality control;
  • Quality assurance practices and standard-operating procedures;
  • Properly cleaning equipment and work areas; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • There may occasionally be opportunities to assist DHI Specialists on farm and provide relief help in the sample-delivery department.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate all testing equipment and supplies according to procedural standards on a daily basis;
  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, lift, and carry objects up to 50 pounds; and
  • Strong work ethic, with ability to work on your own, as well as in a team structure.
  • A dairy-farm background is preferred, but not mandatory.
