Territory details:

This route includes the surrounding areas around and in-between southern Michigan and Indiana. The work day starts at 5 a.m.

Your purpose:

Under the direction and supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, this position operates a CentralStar Cooperative delivery vehicle (no CDL required) on regularly-scheduled, established routes to pick up and/or deliver milk samples and other supplies as directed. Works closely with the Laboratory Supervisor in Grand Ledge, Mich., DHI Specialists, and other CentralStar Cooperative personnel to communicate route changes and other relevant route information.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Prepare complete schedule for one week at a time;
  • Communicate with field staff about time and place to meet;
  • Can start each day from Grand Ledge laboratory or home with empty racks and sample vials in a rear-wheel-drive transit van;
  • Drive to home offices of DHI field staff or directly to farms after testing is completed;
  • Unload empty racks of sample vials for field staff to use the next day;
  • Load racks of test-ready sample vials;
  • Confirm samples and paperwork are all present;
  • Drive to Grand Ledge, Mich., laboratory;
  • Unload racks of test-ready sample vials;
  • Reload empty racks of vials for use the next day;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Route drivers may be asked to learn the basics of available component- and diagnostic-testing programs, as well as how a milk-analysis laboratory operates.
  • Drivers are responsible for scheduling route-truck maintenance and keeping the vehicle clean.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills;
  • Outstanding people skills, with service-orientated attitude;
  • A valid driver’s license;
  • A good driving record;
  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, lift, and carry objects up to 50 pounds; and
  • Strong work ethic, with ability to work on your own, as well as in a team structure.
  • A dairy-farm background is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a route or delivery capacity is highly desired.
