How to Get Certified for Goat Testing

Step 2:
Purchase the test. Once payment is received a link will be sent to you to take the certification test.
Step 3:
Take the test. Upon successful completion (80% or more correct) CentralStar will send you a membership agreement to complete. Once the completed membership agreement is provided to CentralStar, your certification will be approved and a certificate will be provided.

What type of scales can be used to perform verification?
For goat verification tests, scales calibrated by a USDA-approved facility and dated within a year are required. If testing miniature breeds, an official AGS measuring stick is also required. Official AGS measuring sticks are available through Amazon, Valley Vet, and other sources. Example AGS measuring stick. The scale should be able to subtract the weight of the milking bucket and should be accurate to at least 0.1 pounds. Scales used for milk weights in genetic evaluation programs must meet specific tolerance ranges at various weights.

How do you become a certified DHI milk tester for goats?
CentralStar offers a self-paced training program to become a certified DHIA Test Supervisor for the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) and American Goat Society (AGS). Certified Test Supervisors are qualified for Test Type 20 for awards programs. Certification requires meeting the criteria of the CDCB auditing guidelines, demonstrated knowledge various areas, and a score of 80% or greater on the verification test.
What tests can be performed on a goat milk sample?
Goat milk samples can be tested for butterfat, protein, somatic cell count, pregnancy, Johne’s disease, and mastitis.
What is DHI testing?
DHI testing on goats involves a certified technician coming to the farm to observe the day’s milking, weighing the milk and recording weights, and taking samples for each doe. Milk samples are then sent to one of CentralStar’s laboratories where they can be tested for percent butterfat, percent protein, and SCC. You can also request additional testing for pregnancy, Johne’s disease, and mastitis for an additional fee.
