Your purpose:
Experience a career working with CentralStar Cooperative, the genetic and reproductive leader of artificial insemination (A.I.) in dairy and beef cattle with the largest and fastest-growing Dairy Herd Information (DHI) program in the United States. This position will work closely with genetics, technology, and reproductive consulting for dairy producers and fellow team members. The goal is to provide and implement genetic- and reproductive-management recommendations to dairy producers using dairy-technology and herd-management programs in cooperation with Select Sires, Zoetis, CowManager, DHI, and more.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Communicate with producers to design breeding programs for meeting individual genetic and reproductive needs.
- Utilize tools and programs to analyze, monitor, and troubleshoot reproductive problems or opportunities.
- Action programs and tools to implement on-farm strategies to optimize the number of replacement females with superior genetics.
- Schedule and provide the Select Mating Service (SMS) program to dairy producers in CentralStar Cooperative’s Michigan and Indiana market area. This includes, but is not limited to implementation of genomic data, analysis of herd pedigrees, and linear evaluation of cows.
- Utilize data to develop progress reports for review with herd owners and the CentralStar Cooperative team.
- Conduct analysis of farm records to accurately benchmark reproduction, genetic, demographic, health, and production statistics.
- Schedule and implement meetings to provide data analysis and consulting services to dairy producers and their farm-management teams, including but not limited to, A.I. specialists, nutritionists, veterinarians, and bankers.
- Proactively market our genetics, services, and product portfolio to maximize industry advantages.
- Co-manage integral key accounts with other senior staff members.
- Build relationships with prospective clients and maintain partnerships with current clients.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the dairy-cattle industry is necessary;
- A bachelor’s degree in dairy/animal science, agribusiness, or a related area is preferred, but not required;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Exceptional speaking and discussion skills, including content preparation, dynamic delivery efforts, and the ability to interact with a small audience and answer questions;
- Positive work ethic with a service-orientated attitude;
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team structure;
- Polished skills in the overall use of dairy-related technology, including DairyComp 305, DART(formerly PCDART), heat-detection systems, etc.;
- Ability to adapt and learn new technologies;
- Committed to self-continuing education and staying current on industry trends;
- Strong computer skills required, such as experience with Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word);
- Dairy-cattle-genetic and/or reproductive-program background;
- Experience in dairy and/or agricultural sales;
- A valid driver’s license; and
- Willing to travel to customers within your work territory.
