Description
ESTROTECT Breeding Indicators are proven heat detection patches designed for dairy and beef producers who want a simple, accurate way to monitor estrus activity.
When cows or heifers are mounted, the silver coating scratches off to reveal a bright fluorescent color underneath. Additional mountings expose more color, making it easy to identify the animals showing the strongest estrus intensity.
When more than 50% of the patch is rubbed off, the cow or heifer is typically in optimal heat and ready to breed.
ESTROTECT patches fit easily into a variety of breeding programs and are commonly used:
- During Ovsynch and synchronization protocols
- Before breeding to identify standing heat
- After breeding to monitor return heats
- To help identify cows that may be pregnant
- To identify potential embryonic loss in confirmed pregnancies
If a patch remains unchanged after breeding, the animal can often be assumed pregnant. If the patch shows new rubbing activity after pregnancy confirmation, it may indicate she has returned to heat.
For best adhesion, clean the tailhead area before applying patches. A cleaning brush is available to remove dirt, manure and loose hair before application.
