FerAppease® Cattle Stress Management

Price range: $48.00 through $138.00

FerAppease® is a unique, research-backed stress mitigation tool for dairy and beef cattle. The active ingredient is a synthetic analogue of Maternal Bovine Appeasing Substance (mBAS), a naturally occurring substance produced by cows that helps create an appeasing effect in cattle. When applied prior to stressful events, FerAppease helps reduce threat perception, supporting animal welfare, health, performance, and productivity.

Description

Stress is one of the most significant challenges impacting dairy and beef cattle performance. Whether cattle are being weaned, transported, vaccinated, bred, dehorned, commingled, dried off, or transitioning into new environments, stress can negatively affect health, feed intake, growth, reproduction, and overall productivity.

FerAppease was developed to help cattle respond more effectively to these unavoidable management and physiological stressors. The active ingredient is a synthetic analogue of Maternal Bovine Appeasing Substance (mBAS), a naturally occurring compound secreted by the skin of the mammary gland that creates an appeasing effect in cattle. When FerAppease is applied topically, the mBAS analogue is assimilated through the vomeronasal organ, helping decrease threat perception and the resulting stress response.

Research has demonstrated benefits in both dairy and beef cattle. Dairy studies have shown improvements in pregnancy rates, reductions in metritis and morbidity, and improved fresh cow performance. Beef research has demonstrated improvements in weight gain and carcass value when cattle are managed through stressful production events.

FerAppease can be used throughout the production cycle to help cattle maintain performance when exposed to stressors that commonly impact profitability.

Directions for Use

Use only on healthy dairy and beef cattle.

Adult cattle (Over 200 Pounds)

  • Apply 5 mL behind the poll (nuchal skin)
  • Apply an additional 5 mL to the skin above the muzzle
  • Total dose: 10 mL per animal

Calves and youngstock (Under 200 pounds)

  • Apply 2.5 mL behind the poll
  • Apply an additional 2.5 mL above the muzzle
  • Total dose: 5 mL per animal

For best results, administer approximately 24 hours prior to a stressful event whenever possible. FerAppease begins working shortly after application and can provide benefits for up to 14 days. Shake well before use. Do not inject

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FerAppease?
FerAppease is a topical cattle stress-management product containing a synthetic analogue of Maternal Bovine Appeasing Substance (mBAS), a naturally occurring compound that helps reduce threat perception and support a calmer response to stressful events.

When should FerAppease be used?
FerAppease can be used anytime cattle are exposed to management or physiological stressors, including weaning, transportation, vaccination, dehorning, castration, branding, breeding, calving, commingling, and dry-off.

How quickly does FerAppease work?
Behavior modulation and stress mitigation begin shortly after application. For best results, apply approximately 24 hours before a planned stressful event. Peak activity occurs from approximately one hour through three days after administration, with benefits that can extend up to 14 days.

What research has been done with FerAppease in beef cattle?
Beef cattle research has shown that FerAppease can improve performance during some of the most stressful points in production, including weaning, transport, feedlot arrival, and processing. Studies have reported improvements in average daily gain, feed efficiency, and overall cattle performance compared to untreated cattle.

Research has also shown reductions in stress-related behaviors and improved adaptability during the receiving period, which can translate into better health outcomes and more consistent performance in the feedlot.

Can FerAppease improve reproductive performance?
Research in dairy cattle has demonstrated improved pregnancy rates when FerAppease was administered at artificial insemination. Studies have also shown improvements in health outcomes during the transition period.

Can FerAppease be used on calves?
Yes. FerAppease can be used on calves and youngstock during stressful events such as weaning, transportation, vaccination, dehorning, and grouping transitions. Dosage should be adjusted according to label directions.

Is there a milk withdrawal or slaughter withdrawal period?
No. When used according to label directions, FerAppease does not require a milk discard period or a pre-slaughter withdrawal interval.

How is FerAppease different from a sedative or tranquilizer?
FerAppease does not sedate cattle. Instead, it works through the animal’s natural behavioral pathways to help reduce threat perception and the physiological stress response while allowing cattle to maintain normal activity and performance.

Is FerAppease only for weaning?
No. While many producers use FerAppease during weaning, it can be beneficial anytime cattle face management or physiological stress, including transportation, breeding, vaccination, dry-off, calving, commingling, and processing events.
